Inwavelettheorysmoothenessisoneofthemaininterests.BytheMallat-Meyerconstruction(see[He]or[Ne])theproblemoffindingsmoothwaveletsisreducestofindingsmoothscalingfunctionsofmultiresolu-tims.Fromagivenscalingfunctiongasmootheronecanbemadebytakingconvolutionwithe.g.thecharacteristicfunctionof[0,1].Inthisarticleacharacterisationofthemultiresolutiongeneratedbythatconvolution-willbegivenbymeansofprimitivesoffunctionsinthemultiresolutiongeneratedbyg.Fromthis,thesplinemuhtresolutiomfollowasaspecialcase.
