The9/11attackwasundoubtedlyoneofthemostimportanteventstoinfluenceinternationalrelationsinthe21stcentury.OnSeptember11th,2001,al-Qaeda,ledbyOsamabinLaden,attackedtheUSheartlands.Theattackscausedthedeathofnearly3000peopleandledtodirecteconomiclossesofaroundUS$100billion.ThiswasthemostseriousexternalattackontheUSsincetheWarofIndependenceof1812.IninfluenceitsurpassedeventheattackonPearlHarborintheSecondWorldWar.9/11highlightedtheimportanceofnon-traditionalsecurityandraisedittoapositionalmostparallelwiththatoftheworld'straditionalsecurityagenda.Theeventshaveprofoundlyinfluencedtheoutlookandbehavioroftheworld'ssole
