Verification of Beam Models for Ionic Polymer-Metal Composite Actuator

摘要 IonicPolymer-MetalComposite(IPMC)canworkasanactuatorbyapplyingafewvoltages.AthickIPMCactuator,whereNafion-117membranewassynthesizedwithpolypyrrole/aluminacompositefiller,wasanalyzedtoverifytheequivalentbeamandequivalentbimorphbeammodels.TheblockingforceandtipdisplacementoftheIPMCactuatorweremeasuredwithaDCpowersupplyandYoung’smodulusoftheIPMCstripwasmeasuredbybendingandtensiletestsrespectively.ThecalculatedmaximumtipdisplacementandtheYoung’smodulusbytheequivalentbeammodelwerealmostidenticaltothecorrespondingmeasureddata.Finiteelementanalysiswiththermalanalogytechniquewasutilizedintheequivalentbimorphbeammodeltonumericallyreproducetheforce-displacementrelationshipoftheIPMCactuator.Theresultsbytheequivalentbimorphbeammodelagreedwellwiththeforce-displacementrelationshipacquiredbythemeasureddata.Itisconfirmedthattheequivalentbeamandequivalentbimorphbeammodelsarepracticallyandeffectivelysuitableforpredictingthetipdisplacement,blockingforceandYoung’smodulusofIPMCactuatorswithdifferentthicknessanddifferentcompositeofionicpolymermembrane.
