1.TheAcquisitionoftheTsinghuaBambooSlips(TBS)Theso-calledTsinghuaBambooSlips(TBS)areacollectionofwritingsonbamboostripsfromtheWarringStatesperiod,whichwereacquiredin2008byTsinghuaUniversity.Beforetheinventionofpaper,Chinesepeopleusedsilkandbambooslipsorwoodaswritingmaterials,ahabitthatetymologicallyexplainsthecurrentChineseidiomshuyuzhubo(書于竹帛),‘writtenonbambooorsilk.’AftertheFirstEmperorofQin(QinShihuang,秦始皇)hadconqueredthesixindependentkingdomsandhadunifiedChina,heproclaimedanedictbanningthepossessionandcirculationofmostexistingbooks,suchastheBookofSongs,theBookofHistory,andtreatisesfromtheHundredSchoolsofThought,andheorderedthemtobeburned.TheburningofmanyforbiddendocumentsonsilkandbamboostripsafterthepromulgationoftheedictofQin,constitutedaseverelosstotheChineseculturalheritage.
