摘要
Becauseoftheradioactivityandtoxicnatureofnuclearmaterials,theircontainmentwithinoxidematrices,encasedinsealedcontainers,hasbeenproposedasasuitablemeansforstorageandtransportation.However,containerfailuresbecauseofcracksorsmallorificespresentamajorleakageriskfornuclearmaterials,consequentlyposingasignificanthazardtotheenvironmentandhumanbeings.Inthisstudy,terbiumoxidepowderwasusedasanuclearmaterialrepresentativetoexaminetheleakageofnuclearmaterialpowderthroughorificeslocatedatthebaseofapressurecontainer.Thedependenceoftheorificediameter,thepowderlayerthickness,andtheinternalpressureofthecontainerontheleakagemechanismandamountwasexamined.Asimplifiedmodelcorrelatingthedependenceoftheabove-mentionedparameterstodeterminetheutmostleakageamountwasalsodevelopedbasedonthepresentresults.Theleakageofthenuclearmaterialpowderwasassessedbymeasuringitsconcentrationusinganopticalparticlecounter.Thediameteroftheorificedeterminedthepowderleakagemechanism,whichinturninfluencedtheamountofleakageproduced.Comparisonstudiesshowedthatunlikethechangesinthedifferentialpressure,thevolumeofthecontainerhaslittleeffectontheleakageamount.Undersufficientlyhighinternalpressures,theoxidepowdercanbereleasedasafineaerosol.Theworkisnotonlycrucialfromthenuclearsafetyaspect,butisalsobeneficialforthesafeapplicationofpowderandnanoparticles.
