Microscopictomesoscopicstructuralinvestigationsandfoliationintersectionaxes(FIAs)preservedinporphyroblastsrevealaverycomplexhistoryofdeformationandtectonismwithinthesouthwesternpartofthewesternhinterlandzonealongthenorthernmarginoftheIndianplate,NWPakistan.D1,D2,andD3relatedstructuresinthesouthwesternpartresembletheF1/F2,F3,andF4relatedstructuresinthenortheasternpartofthewesternhinterlandzone.Thesestructuresdevelopedatthesametimethroughthesamechangesinthedirectionofbulkshorteninginsouthwesternandnortheasternpartsofthewesternhinterlandzone.FIAset1indicatesNW-SEshortening.TheD2fabrics,minerallineationsandfoldaxesindicateE-Wshortening.FIAset2,D3foldaxesandminerallineationsindicateNNE-SSWshortening.D3deformationeventisequivalenttotheF4deformationeventinthenortheasternpartofthewesternhinterlandzone.D4foldaxes,mineralstretchinglineationsandaxialplanefoliationsuggestENE-WSWshortening.TheD4NNW-SSEfabrics,whichformedintheregionaftertheformationoftheMMT(mainmantlethrust),Khairabad-Panjalthrustfault,HissartangthrustfaultandMBT(mainboundarythrust),likelyresultedfromENE-WSWbulkshorteningrelatedtodevelopmentoftheHazara-Kashmirsyntaxis.
