Caspasesfunctionasacomponentincellsignalingpathwayswhichareinvolvedineventssuchasapoptosis,cellgrowthanddifferentiation.Caspase-9(CASP9)isamemberoftheintrinsicapoptosispathway,whichisactivatedasaresultofmitochondrialdamageandcytochromecrelease.Onceactivated,CASP9cleavesandactivatestherelevantcaspases,suchascaspase-3,thattargetavarietyofcellularcomponentstodismantleacellandpresentthefragmentsforphagocytosis[1].
