Arbitrary and reconfigurable optical vortex generation:a high-efficiency technique using director-varying liquid crystal fork gratings

摘要 Ahigh-efficiencytechniqueforopticalvortex(OV)generationisproposedanddemonstrated.Thetechniqueisbasedonliquidcrystalforkgratingswithspace-variantazimuthalorientations,whicharelocallycontrolledviapolarization-sensitivealignmentlayers.Thankstotheopticalrewritabilityofthealignmentagentandthedynamicimagegenerationofthedigitalmicro-mirrordevice,forkgratingscanbeinstantlyandarbitrarilyreconfigured.Correspondingopticalvorticescarryingarbitraryazimuthalandradialindicesaredemonstratedwithaconversionefficiencyof98.5%,exhibitingfeaturesofpolarizationcontrolandelectricalswitching.ThetechniquemaypaveabrightroadtowardOVgeneration,manipulation,anddetection.
