Constructing the scattering matrix for optical microcavities as a nonlocal boundary value problem

摘要 Wedevelopanumericalschemetoconstructthescattering(S)matrixforopticalmicrocavities,includingthespecialcaseswithparity-timeandothernon-Hermitiansymmetries.Thisschemeincorporatestheexplicitformofanonlocalboundarycondition,withtheincidentlightrepresentedbyaninhomogeneousterm.ThisapproachresolvestheartifactofadiscontinuousnormalderivativetypicallyfoundintheR-matrixmethod.Inaddition,weshowthat,byexcludingtheaforementionedinhomogeneousterm,thenon-HermitianHamiltonianinourapproachalsodeterminesthePeriels–Kapurstates,anditconstitutesanalternativeapproachtoderivethestandardR-matrixresultinthisbasis.Therefore,ourschemeprovidesaconvenientframeworktoexplorethebenefitsofbothapproaches.Weillustratethisboundaryvalueproblemusing1Dand2DscalarHelmholtzequations.TheeigenvaluesandpolesoftheSmatrixcalculatedusingourapproachshowgoodagreementwithresultsobtainedbyothermeans.
