Microwave frequency upconversion employing a coupling-modulated ring resonator

摘要 Wepresentamethodtogenerateafrequency-doubledmicrowavesignalbyemployingacoupling-modulatedringresonator.CriticalcouplingisachievedwhentheresonatorintrinsiclossisperfectlybalancedbytheexternalcouplingenabledbyaMach–Zehnderinterferometercoupler.Thehighsuppressionofthecarrierleadstoacleantwo-toneopticalsignalwiththefrequencyintervaltwotimeslargerthanthatoftheinputmicrowavefrequency.Thebeatingofthetwo-tonesignalataphotodiodegeneratesthefrequencyupconvertedmicrowavesignal.Atheoreticalmodelisestablishedtoanalyzethemodulationprocessandthemicrowavesignalgeneration.Experimentalresultsshowthattheelectricalharmonicsuppressionratioisaround~20dB(29dB)foraninputmicrowavesignalwith5dBm(10dBm)power.
