Theboundsfortheeigenvaluesofthestiffnessmatricesinthefiniteelementdiscretiza-tioncorrespondingtoLu:=-u″withzeroboundaryconditionsbyquadratichierarchicalbasicareshownexplicitly.TheconditionnumberoftheresultingsystembehaveslikeO(1/h)wherehisthemeshsize.WealsoanalyzeamaindiagonalpreconditionerofthestiffnessmatrixwhichreducestheconditionnumberofthepreconditionedsystemtoO(1).
