Biomimetics(orbionics)istheengineeringdisciplinethatconstructsartificialsystemsusingbiologicalprinciples.Theidealfinalresultinbiomimeticsistocreatealivingmachine.Butwhatarethedesirableandnon-desirablepropertiesofbiomimeticproduct?Wherecannaturalprototypesbefound?Howcantechnicalsolutionsbetransferredfromnaturetotechnology?CanweuselivingnaturelikeLEGObricksforconstructionourmachines?Howcanbiologyhelpus?Whatisalivingmachine?Inbiomimeticpracticeonlysome"part"(organ,partoforgan,tissue)oftheobservedwholeorganismisutilized.Apossibletemplateforfuturesuper-organismextensionforbiomimeticmethodsmightbedrawnfromexperimentsinholisticecologicalagriculture(ecologicaldesign,permaculture,ecologicalengineering,etc.).ThenecessarytranslationoftheserulestopracticalactioncanbeachievedwiththeRussianTheoryofInventiveProblemSolving(TRIZ),specificallyadjustedtobiology.Thus,permaculture,reinforcedbyaTRIZconceptualframework,mightprovidethebasisforSuper-OrganismicBionics,whichishypothesizedasnecessaryforeffectiveecologicalengineering.Thishypothesisissupportedbyacasestudy-thedesignofasustainableartificialnaturereserveforwildpollinatorsasalivingmachine.
