Foralongtimeinthepast,theDerungswereknownforhavingtheirwomen'sfacestattooed.IhadgottoknowbeforeleavingfortheNujiangCanyonthatthissomewhatstrangetraditionhadlongbeenabandoned.OnceintheDerungarea,however,Idecidedtofindoutwhencethis“tradition”,sotospeak,hadoriginatedandiftherewerstill“livingspecimens”ofit.
