TheJoyultradition,whichwasfoundedinthe11thcentury;wasoneofthemostimportantsectsofTibetanBuddhism.ThistraditionmaytraceitsoriginsbacktoPhaDampaSangye,awell-knownmonkwhowasanativeofSouthIndia,andwasfoundedbyMacikLabdron(ma-ciglab-sgron),afamousTibetanYogini(afemalepractitioneroftheYogacharaschooD.ItwastheonlysectfoundedbyafemaleinthehistoryofTibetanBuddhism,andthisisalsorarelyseenintheworldhistoryofworldreligions.
