Riversareoneofthemostessentialsourcesofsandandgravelsupplyforcivilworks.However,undesirableeffectsofirregularin-streammininghavebeenreportedonnaturalsources,environmentandinfrastructuresclosetorivers.Therefore,itisnecessarytofindtheeffectsofminingonriversinmoredetails.Thisresearchconcentratesonmining-pitmigrationphenomenonanditseffectsonthechannelbed.Thispaperreportsanexperimentalstudyonthemigrationofrectangularminingpitsandvariationoflongitudinalprofileinthechannelbedcomposedofratheruniformsediments.Differentvaluesofwidthsandlengthswereusedforpitwhilepitdepthsandflowvariableswerekeptconstant.Theresultsshowthatthemigrationspeedchangeswiththelength/widthratioofthepit.Themigrationspeedinconvectionperiodishigherthanthatindiffusionperiod.Inaddition,byincreasingthelengthorwidth,fillingrateofpitincreases,wheretheeffectofwidthismoreimportantthantheeffectofthelength.Alsoisreportedinthispaperafieldstudyonthechangesofthreepitsexcavatedatdifferentlocationsofariver.Somesimilaritiesbetweenthepitmigrationinthestraightreachoftheriverandthatoftheexperimentalworkisrealizedandpresented.
