摘要
Thisarticleseekstoaddresssomelingeringdebateswithinsustainabilitystudiesbyrevealingtheconnectionsbetweenrenewableenergyconsumptionandsustainability.Usingdatafrom30OECDcountries,thearticleexaminestheconnectionsviaregressionandgeospatialanalysis.Findingsfromthequantitativeanalysisindicatethatabout50%ofthevariationinsustainabilityisaccountedforbythedegreeofrenewablesconsumption.Thegeo-spatialanalysisvisuallyillustratestheintimateconnectionsbetweenthetwovariables.Theoretically,renewableen-ergyrelatestosustainabilityinthreedimensions.Thefirstdimensioniseconomic.Relyingontraditionalfossilfuelseventuallywillbringoureconomytoastop.Renewableenergies,however,areabletosecureourenergysupplyintoanindefinitefuture.Theseconddimensionlinkstoethics.Toleaveanintactplanettofuturegenerationsisamoralresponsibilityofourgeneration.Thecurrentenergysupplysystemisbuiltondepletionofnaturalresources,whilethesourcesofrenewableenergyarevastandconstantlyreplenished.Thelastdimensionisecologic.Howtoallocateaproperapportionmentoftheglobalbiospherebetweenhumankindandtheotherlifeontheearthisacriticalissuerelatedtosustainability.Byusingrenewableenergy,wecangreatlyreduceourimpactonbiodiversityandthereforestrikeabalancebetweenhumankindandotherlife.Overalltheresearchsuggeststhatdevelopingrenewablescanandinmanycasesdoessustainanation'seconomicgrowthwhilesimultaneouslyprotectingtheenvironment.Itisawin-winsituation.Thisfindingundoubtedlypointsoutapracticalandrealisticpathforsustainabledevelopment.
