  • 简介:Four-wavemixing,aswellasitsinducedintensitynoise,isharmfultowavelengthdivisionmultiplexingsystems.Theefficiencyandtherelativeintensitynoiseoffour-wavemixingarenumericallysimulatedforthetwo-waveandthethree-wavefibertransmissions.Itisfoundthattheefficiencydecreaseswiththeincreaseofboththefrequencyspacingandthefiberlength,whichcanbeexplainedusingthequasi-phase-matchingcondition.Furthermore,therelativeintensitynoisedecreaseswiththeincreaseoffrequencyspacing,whileitincreaseswiththeincreaseoffiberlength,whichisduetotheconsiderablepowerlossofthepumplight.Thisinvestigationpresentsagoodreferenceforthepracticalapplicationofwavelengthdivisionmultiplexingsystems.

  • 简介:Inthispaper,weinvestigatecoherenceresonance(CR)andnoise-inducedsynchronizationinHindmarsh-Rose(HR)neuralnetworkwiththreedifferenttypesoftopologies:regular,random,andsmall-world.ItisfoundthattheadditivenoisecaninduceCRinHRneuralnetworkwithdifferenttopologiesanditscoherenceisoptimizedbyapropernoiselevel.Itisalsofoundthatascouplingstrengthincreasestheplateauinthemeasureofcoherencecurvebecomesbroadenedandtheeffectsofnetworktopologyismorepronouncedsimultaneously.Moreover,wefindthatincreasingtheprobabilitypofthenetworktopologyleadstoanenhancementofnoise-inducedsynchronizationinHRneuronsnetwork.

  • 简介:InGaAs/InPavalanchephotodiodestypicallyworkinthegatedGeigermodetoachievenear-infraredsinglephotondetection.Byusingultrashortgatesandcombiningwiththerobustspike-cancelingtechniquethatconsistsofthecapacitance-balancingandlow-passfilteringtechnique,wedemonstrateanInGaAs/InPsingle-photondetector(SPD)withwidelytunablerepetitionratesinthispaper.Theoperationfrequencycouldbetunedconvenientlyfrom100MHzto1.25GHzwiththeSPD’sperformancemeasuredtomaintaingoodperformance,makingitquitesuitableforquantumkeydistribution,laserranging,andopticaltimedomainreflectometry.Furthermore,theSPDexhibitedextremelylow-noisecharacteristics.ThedetectionefficiencyofthisSPDcouldreach20%withthedarkcountrateof2.5×10-6∕gateandafter-pulseprobabilityof4.1%at1GHz.

  • 简介:Theemissionwavelengthofalaserisphysicallypredeterminedbythegainmediumused.Consequently,arbitrarywavelengthgenerationisafundamentalchallengeinthescienceoflight.Presentsolutionsincludeopticalparametricgeneration,requiringcomplexopticalsetupsandspectrallyslicedsupercontinuum,takingadvantageofasimplerfibertechnology:afixed-wavelengthpumplaserpulseisconvertedintoaspectrallyverybroadbandoutput,fromwhichtherequiredresultingwavelengthisthenopticallyfiltered.Unfortunately,thisprocessisassociatedwithaninherentlypoornoisefigure,whichoftenprecludesmanyrealisticapplicationsofsuchsupercontinuumsources.Here,weshowthatbyaddingonlyonepassiveopticalelement—ataperedphotoniccrystalfiber—toafixed-wavelengthfemtosecondlaser,onecaninaverysimplemannerresonantlyconvertthelaseremissionwavelengthintoanultra-wideandcontinuousrangeofdesiredwavelengths,withverylowinherentnoise,andwithoutmechanicalrealignmentofthelaser.Thisisachievedbyexploitingthedoubleinterplayofnonlinearityandchirpinthelasersourceandchirpandphasematchinginthetaperedfiber.Asafirstdemonstrationofthissimpleandinexpensivetechnology,wepresentafemtosecondfiberlasercontinuouslytunableacrosstheentirered–green–bluespectralrange.
