Centrifuge modeling of buried continuous pipelines subjected to normal faulting

摘要 Seismicgroundfaultingisthegreatesthazardforcontinuousburiedpipelines.Overtheyears,researchershaveattemptedtounderstandpipelinebehaviormostlyvianumericalmodelingsuchasthefiniteelementmethod.Thelackofwell-documentedfieldcasehistoriesofpipelinefailurefromseismicgroundfaultingandthecostandcomplicatedfacilitiesneededforfull-scaleexperimentalsimulationmeanthatacentrifuge-basedmethodtodeterminethebehaviorofpipelinessubjectedtofaultingisbesttoverifynumericalapproaches.Thispaperpresentsresultsfromthreecentrifugetestsdesignedtoinvestigatecontinuousburiedsteelpipelinebehaviorsubjectedtonormalfaulting.Theexperimentalsetupandprocedurearedescribedandtherecordedaxialandbendingstrainsinducedinapipelinearepresentedandcomparedtothoseobtainedviaanalyticalmethods.Theinfluenceoffactorssuchasfaultingoffset,burialdepthandpipediameterontheaxialandbendingstrainsofpipesandongroundsoilfailureandpipelinedeformationpatternsarealsoinvestigated.Finally,thetensileruptureofapipelineduetonormalfaultingisinvestigated.
