摘要 TheEnglishconstruction'XandY'referstothecoordinationoftwowordswithandasconjunction,XandYbeingofthesamepartofspeechandparallelmeanings.ThispaperisacognitivestudyofthelinearorderoftheEnglishconstruction'XandY'fromtheperspectivesofcognitivesalience,cognitiveiconicity,andcognitionofformalrules.Thelinearcharacteristicsof'XandY'arerevealedasfollows:1)salience-downgradingorder;2)chronologicaliconicity;3)cognitionofalphabeticorderandprosodicorder.
