Afterthepyramids,obelisksmustbethemosticonicsymbolofAncientEgypt,butvisuallylittleisknownaboutthemeansbywhichtheirtransportationwaseffected,otherthanaNewKingdomscenefromDeirel-Baharioftheconveyanceofobelisksbywater,aboardalighter.1Theonlyothericonographicsource,untilrecently,whichapproachedadepictionofsuchanactivity,wasanOldKingdomscenedepictingtheconveyanceofgranitepalmettecolumnsbybargetothepyramidcomplexofUnas.2NeitherthishulltypenorthelighterappearinGardiner’sregisterofship/boatdeterminatives,3norinReisner’stypologyseries.4IhavecategorizedtheUnasvesselasanETH10vessel.5
