Astandardconservationformisderivedinthispaper.ThehyperbolicityofHelbing’sfluiddynamictrafficflowmodelisproved,whichisessentialtothegeneralanalyticalandnumericalstudyofthismodel.Onthebasisofthisconservationform,alocaldiscontinuousGalerkinschemeisdesignedtosolvetheresultingsystemefficiently.Theevolutionofanunstableequilibriumtrafficstateleadingtoastablestop-and-gotravelingwaveissimulated.Thissimulationalsoverifiesthatthemodelistrulyimprovedbytheintroductionofthemodifieddiffusioncoefficients,andthushelpstoprotectvehiclesfromcollisionsandavoidetheappearanceoftheextremelylargedensity.
