Characteristicsofiontemperaturemeasuredwithcharge-exchangerecombinationspectroscopy(CXRS)werestudiedinOhmic,lower-hybrid-wave(LHW)drivenandion-cyclotron-resonance-frequency(ICRF)heatedplasmasinHT-7.TheresultsindicatethatthecentraliontemperatureTi0followstheone-thirdpowerlawintheproductofcentralline-averageddensityneandplasmacurrentIpinOhmicdischargesandisthereforeconsistentwiththeArtsimovichscalinglawTi0=K·(Ip·Bt·ne·R2)1/3.ItisshownthatthereisanappreciableincreaseofiontemperatureduringtheoperationwithbothLHWandICRFandthattheincrementofiontemperatureinthoseshotsismainlyduetotheenergytransferviacollisionsbetweenionsandelectronsratherthatbydirectheatingoftheions.
