TheanalysisandevaluationofanactualportsystemcontainingRdifferentship’skindsandNsubsystemseachofwhichconsistsofM.(i=1,2,…,N)portsarederived.TheexternalarrivalsofshipstothesystemcomefromRdifferentPoissonsourcesandtheinterarrivalstothequeueofeachportofasubsystemaredeterminedaccordingtoconditionprobabilities.EachporthasmultipleberthswhoseservicetimesaredistributedaccordingtoErlangprobabilitydistributionfunctions.EachportofasubsystemhasRinfinitecapacitybuffersforstoringshipsinterarrived.Thismethodprovidesagoodapproximationprocedureforobtainingsystemperfor-mancemeasuressuchaswaitingtimesofships,averagequeuelengths,etc.Optimumportcapacitycanthusbeevaluatedbyusingthisanalysis.Asimulationisalsopresentedtotestthisapproximateanalysis,andagoodagreementisobserved.Thismodelshallbeusedintheplanningofseveralactualportsystems.Throughtheapplicationofthismodel,itispossibletoanalyzeandevaluateperformancesofthesystems.
