InthispaperthemeteorologicalbackgroundfortheformationofplumefromtheforestfireinNortheastChinaon7—8May1987isstated.Thelong-rangeinstantaneousdiffusionparametersarecalculatedbyusingthesatellitephotographoftheplumeswithvisiblelengthrangingfrom100toover500kin.Theresultsofcal-culationshowthattherelationsbetweeninstantaneousdiffusionparameterandtraveltime(upto60000sec.)obeythelawoflinearor3/2power.Inaddition,heatreleasefromthefireonMay7—8estimatedbypuffrisingformulacanmeet,inrespecttotheorderofmagnitude,thevaluegainedonthefieldsurvey.
