Anovelschemeemployinglow-densityparity-check(LDPC)codesinatmosphericopticalcommunicationsystemisproposed.Wedeploycoherentdetectionatthereceivingsideintheproposedscheme.Toreducebiterrorrate(BER)andenhancethesystemperformance,LDPCcodesareexploitedandcoherentreceiverisusedtoimprovethereceivingsensitivity.Experimentsareimplementedtoevaluatetheperformanceofthetransmissionsystem.Theatmosphericchannelattenuationsaresetto20-30dB/km.ThecoherentdetectionwithLDPCcodescanreducethereceivedpowerrequirementby~4dBmattheBERof10-9.
