Estimating the Operation Status of Steam Cracking Furnace Using Numerical Simulation with Combustion Models

Anaccurateandcompletegeometricmodelwasconstructedtosimulatethecombustion,flowandtemperatureenvironmentintheradiantsectionofthesteamcrackingfurnace.Simulationofflowandradiationstatushasutilizedthestandardk-εmodelandP1model.Thefinite-rate/eddy-dissipation(finite-rate/ED)combustionmodelandnon-premixedcombustionmodelwerebothusedtosimulateaccuratelythecombustionandtheoperationstatusofthesteamcrackingfurnace.Threedifferentsurfacesofthesteamcrackingfurnacewereobtainedfromthesimulation,namely:thefluegastemperaturefieldoftheentrancesurfaceinlongflameburners,thecentralsurfacelocationoftubes,andthecrossoversectionsurface.Detailedinformationonthefluegastemperatureandthemassconcentrationfractionofthesedifferentsurfacesinthesteamcrackingfurnacecanalsobeobtainedbythesimulation.Thispaperanalyzedandcomparedthesimulationresultswiththetwocombustionmodels,estimatedtheoperationstatusofthesteamcrackingfurnace,andreportedthatthefinite-rate/EDmodelisappropriatetosimulatethesteamcrackingfurnacebycomparingkeysimulationdatawithactualtestdata.Thisworkhasalsoprovidedatheoreticalbasisforsimulatingandoperatingthesteamcrackingfurnace.
