TheCOREXprocessisauniqueindustrializedsmeltingreductiontechnologyforiron-makingpresentlyintheworld.Oneofitsstrikingcharacteristicsisitsabilitytodirectlyutilizelumpcoalasitsmainfuel.Therefore,theCOREXprocessuseslittle,ornocokeatall.TherequirementsonlumpcoalfortheCOREXprocessweregiveninthispaper.Inordertoreducethecokeconsumptionandgiveplaytotheadvantagesofdirectlyusinglumpcoal,theappropriateratioofcoketolumpcoalneedstobedetermined.Thispaperalsosummerizedseveraladvancedmethodsofusingpowderedcoalgeneratedbythetransporting,loadingandunloadingoflumpcoal.InordertosolvethelackofcoaltypesforCOREXandobservethecrackinganddevolatilizationactionoflumpcoalinthemelter-gasifier,anexperimentaldeviceandanewmethodwereproposedtotestthecrackinganddevolatilizationcharacteristicsoflumpcoal.Bymeansofthenewmethod,thedevolatilizationandcrackingbehaviorsoflumpcoalcanbeinvestigated,whichishelpfultotheselectionoflumpcoalfortheCOREXprocess.
