Abasicassumptionofmostrecentlyproposedwaveformdesignalgorithmsisthatthetargetimpulseresponseisaknowndeterministicfunctionorastochasticprocesswithaknownpowerspectraldensity(PSD).However,itiswell-knownthatatargetimpulseresponseisneithereasilynoraccuratelyobtained;besidesitchangessharplywithattitudeangles.Bothoftheaforementionedcasescomplicatethewaveformdesignprocess.Inthispaper,anadaptiverobustwaveformselectionmethodforunknowntargetdetectioninclutterisproposed.Thetargetimpulseresponseisconsideredtobeunknownbutbelongstoaknownuncertaintyset.Anadaptivewaveformlibraryisdevisedbyusingasignal-to-clutter-plus-noiseratio(SCNR)-basedoptimalwaveformdesignmethod.Byapplyingtheminimaxrobustwaveformselectionmethod,theoptimalrobustwaveformisselectedtoensurethelowestperformanceboundoftheunknowntargetdetectioninclutter.Resultsshowthattheadaptivewaveformlibraryoutperformsthepredefinedlinearfrequencymodulation(LFM)waveformlibraryontheSCNRbound.
