Reinstallationofmobilejack-uprigsnexttoexistingfootprintsisaproblematicoperationbecausethespudcanlocatednearthefootprintsissubjectedtoeccentricand/orinclinedloadingconditions.Geotechnicalcentrifugestudieshavemeasuredtheseloadsforcombinationsofchangingfootprintgeometry,footprintsoilpropertiesandtheoffsetofthereinstallationfromthefootprintcentre.Thesetestshavebeenoffullmodelspudcansinordertoaccuratelymeasurethecombinedloadsdeveloped.Theyhavenotprovidedinformationonthemechanismsoffailureoccurringduringthiscomplexinstallation.Observationsfromavisualisationtest,whereahalfspudcanispenetratedagainstatransparentwindowinageotechnicalcentrifuge,arereportedinthispaper.Themechanismsoffailureatdifferentstagesduringthepenetrationarepresented.
