Pathological clavicular fracture as first presentation of renal cell carcinoma: a case report and literature review

Renalcellcarcinoma(RCC)accountsforapproximately3%ofallcancercases.RCCsusuallymetastasizetothelungs,bones,liver,orbrain.Only<1%ofpatientswithbonemetastasesmanifestedclavicularRCCmetastases.Thus,clavicularmetastasisastheinitialpresentationofRCCisextremelyrare.WereportapatientwithRCCmetastasistotheleftclavicle,whichwasfirstpresentedwithpaincausedbyapathologicalfracture.Magneticresonanceimagerevealedarenaltumor,andtechnetium-99m–methylenediphosphonatebonescintigraphyshowedmultipleosseousmetastases.Thepatienteventuallyunderwentsurgerytoremovethelateralendoftheleftclavicleandrightkidney.Histopathologyrevealedrenaltumorandclearcellcarcinomaintheclavicle.Finally,wereview17casesofclavicularmetastasesoriginatingfromdifferentmalignancies.
