OptimisinguseoftheWeb(WWW)forLHCdataanalysisisacomplexproblemandillustratesthechallengesarisingfromtheintegrationofandcomputationacrossmassiveampuntsofinformationdistributedworldwide.Findingtherightpieceofinformationcan,attimes,beextremelytime-consuming,ifnotimpossible,SO-calledGridshavebeenproposedtofacilitateLHCcomputingandmanygroupshaveembarkedonstudiesofdatareplication,datamigrationandnetwrokingplhilosophies.Otheraspectssuchastheroleofmoddleware'forGridsareemergingasrequiringresearch.Thispaperpositionstheneedforappropriatemiddlewarethatenablesuserstoresolvephysicsqueriesacrossmassivedatasets.Itidentifiestheroleofmeta-dataforqueryresolutionandtheimportanceofInformationGridsforhigh-energyphysicsanalysisratherthanjustcomputationalorDataGrids,ThispaperidentifiessoftwarethatisbeingimplementedatCERNtoenablethequeryingofverylargecollaboratingHEPdata-sets,initiallybeingemployedfortheconstructionofCMSdetectors.
