NASArotor37wasusedasablindtestcaseforturbomachineryCFDbytheTurbomachineryCommitteeoftheIGTI.Therotorisatransoniccompressorwithatipspeedof454m/s(1500ft/s)andarelativelyhighpressureratioof2.1.Itwastestedinisolationwithacircumferentiallyuniforminletflowsothattheflowthroughitshouldbesteadyapartfromandeffectsofpassagetopassagegeometryvariationandmechanicalvibration.Assuchitrepresentsthesimplestpossibletypeoftestforthree-dimensionalturbomachineryflowsolvers.Howerver,therotorstillpresentsarealchallengeto3Dviscousflowsolversbecausetheshockwave-boudarylayerinteractionisstrongandtheeffectsofviscosityaredominantindeterminingtheflowdeviationandhencethepressureration.Elevenblindsolutionsweresubmittewdandinadditionanon-blindsolutionwasusedtopreparefortheexercies.ThispaperreviewstheflowinthetestcaseandthecomparisonsoftheCFDsolutionswiththetestdata.LessonsforboththeFlowphysicsintransonicfansandfortheapplicationofCFDtosuchmachinesarepointedout.
