Beingavisually-impaired(VI)studentattendingmainstreamclassesposesachallengetothemconsideringthelimitationpresentedbytheirlimitedvision.Thisphenomenologicalstudytriedtoexplorethesedifficultiesandidentifythedifferentcopingskillsthathelpedtheminpursuingtheirschooling.ItwasfoundoutthatVIstudentsdevelopedacertainadaptivemechanismthatenablesthemtosurvivetheiracademicjourney.Theirdifficultytaughtthemtoinnovatethemselvestobecomeaccustomedtothegrowingdemandofsocietyforthemtobeequallycompetitiveandproductiveinpidualthatdoesnotconsidertheirdifficultiesashindrance.ItwasfoundoutthatVIstudentswhoareinthemainstreamclasseshaveastrongersocio-academicadaptabilitywhichenablesthemtorelatethemselvestotheirmainstreamcounterpartsandtoexcelintheiracademics.Thestudyrevealedthattheirsocialadaptationinvolvesstrongspiritualfoundation,self-confidence,self-motivation,senseofbelongingness,andbettersupportsystemfromfamiliesandfriends.Ontheotherhand,theiracademicadaptationincludestechnology,effectiveteacheraides,innovativestrategies,andmaterialsfortheblind.Whenallthiscomponentsareconsidered,thereisanassurancethatVIstudentsattendingmainstreamclassescanfinishtheirschooling.
