Weproposeadepolarizerbasedontheprincipleofacollectionofhalf-waveplateswithrandomlydistributedopticaxes.Thedesignisdemonstratedbymeansofdynamicallyphotopatterningliquidcrystalintorandomlyalignedhomogeneousdomains.Wecharacterizetheliquidcrystaldepolarizerfor1550nmandC-band(1520–1610nm).Adegreeofpolarizationoflessthan5%isobtainedforanylinearlypolarizedlight.Thisstudyprovidesapracticalcandidateforhigh-performancedepolarizers.
