Enhanced spin Hall effect of reflected light with guided-wave surface plasmon resonance

ThephotonicspinHalleffect(SHE)hasbeenintensivelystudiedandwidelyapplied,especiallyinspinphotonics.However,theSHEisweakandisdifficulttodetectdirectly.Inthispaper,weproposeamethodtoenhanceSHEwiththeguided-wavesurface-plasmonresonance(SPR).Bycoveringadielectricwithhighrefractiveindexonthesurfaceofsilverfilm,thephotonicSHEcanbegreatlyenhanced,andagianttransverseshiftofhorizontalpolarizationstateisobservedduetotheevanescentfieldenhancementneartheinterfaceatthetopdielectriclayerandair.Themaximumtransverseshiftofthehorizontalpolarizationstatewith11.5μmisobtainedwhenthethicknessofSifilmisoptimum.ThereisatleastanorderofmagnitudeenhancementincontrastwiththetransverseshiftintheconventionalSPRconfiguration.OurresearchisimportantforprovidinganeffectivewaytoimprovethephotonicSHEandmayoffertheopportunitytocharacterizetheparametersofthedielectriclayerwiththehelpofweakmeasurementsanddevelopmentofsensorsbasedonthephotonicSHE.
