ClimateeffectsoflandusechangeinChinaassimulatedbyaregionalclimatemodel(RegCM2)areinvestigated.Themodelisnestedinone-waymodewithinaglobalcoupledatmosphere-oceanmodel(CSIROR21L9AOGCM).Twomulti-yearsimulations,onewithcurrentlanduseandtheotherwithpotentialvegetationcover,areconducted.Statisticallysignificantchangesofprecipitation,surfaceairtemperature,anddailymaximumanddailyminimumtemperatureareanalyzedbasedonthedifferencebetweenthetwosimulations.ThesimulatedeffectsoflandusechangeoverChinaincludeadecreaseofmeanannualprecipitationoverNorthwestChina,aregionwithaprevalenceofaridandsemi-aridareas;anincreaseofmeanannualsurfaoeairtemperatureoversomeareas;andadecreaseoftemperaturealongcoastalareas.Summermeandailymaximumtemperatureincreasesinmanylocations,whilewintermeandailyminimumtemperaturedecreasesinEastChinaandincreasesinNorthwestChina.TheuppersoilmoisturedecreasessignificantlyacrossChina.Theresultsindicatethatthesamelandusechangemaycausedifferentclimateeffectsindifferentregionsdependingonthesurroundingenvironmentandclimatecharacteristics.
