TherecentdevelopmentofCu-basedelectrocatalystsforelectrochemicalreductionofcarbondioxide(CO2)hasattractedmuchattentionduetotheiruniqueactivityandselectivitycomparedtoothermetalcatalysts.Particularly,CuistheuniqueelectrocatalystforCO2electrochemicalreductionwithhighselectivitytogenerateavarietyofhydrocarbons.Inthisreview,wemainlysummarizetherecentadvancesontherationaldesignofCunanostructures,thecompositionregulationofCu-basedalloys,andtheexploitationofadvancedsupportsforimprovingthecatalyticactivityandselectivitytowardelectrochemicalreductionofCO2.ThespecialfocusistodemonstratehowtoenhancetheactivityandselectivityofCubasedelectrocatalystforCO2reduction.TheperspectivesandchallengesforthedevelopmentofCu-basedelectrocatalystsarealsoaddressed.WehopethisreviewcanprovidetimelyandvaluableinsightsintothedesignofadvancedelectrocatalyticmaterialsforCO2electrochemicalreduction.
