SiCwhiskerswith'rosarybead'morphologyweresynthesizedusingsuitablesiliconsourceandcarbonsourcethroughsolidreactionatthetemperatureabove1537K.ThediameterandlengthoftheSiCwhiskerswereabout0.1-1.0μmand20-100μm,respectively.Thelargestdiameteroftheirenlargedendsofthewhiskerswasabout0.2-1.0μm,anditgraduallyandsmoothlydecreasedtothesizeoftheplainpartofthewhiskers.TheresultsofX-raydiffractionanalysisshowthatthecrystallinestructureoftheobtainedSiCwhiskersisβ-SiC.ItisconsideredthattheSiCwhiskersgrowviaavapor-solidmechanism.
