Toinvestigatethemorphologicalchangesofspermatozoaintheproximalvasdeferensaftervasectomy.Methods:Proxinalvasdeferensfluidswerecollectedfrom79fertilemen(groupA)and64vasectomizedmen(groupB)duringtheoperationsofvasectomyorvasovasostomy.SpermmorphologyintheproximalvasdeferenswasanalyzedafterstainingwiththemodifiedPapanicolaoumethod.Results:ThepercentageofspeImatozoawithanormalovalheadfromgroupB(50.7%±21.7%)wassignificantlylowerthanthatofgroupA(75.2%±11.1%).ThedataingroupAwassimilartothoseofnormalsemenandthereforerepresentsthephysiologicalconditionoftheproximalvasdeferensspermoffertilemen.TherewerenosignificantdifferencesinthepercentagesofnormalovalheadsingroupBwiththetimesincevasectomy.Condusion:Aftervasectomy,thespermatozoaintheproximalvasdefereusandepididymiswerecontinuouslydegeneratingandbeingreplenishedbyspenmatozoacomingfromtestis.Theobviousmorphologicaldegenerationoccurredinthespermtailandspermatozoawithasmalloralheadandamorphousheadswereincreased.(AsianJAndrof1999Jun;1:61-65)
