Twonear-fieldmethods,namelytheintegralmethodanddifferentialmethod,werepresentedforgivingsecond-ordermeandriftforcesandmomentsbetweentwofixedsubmergedbodiesinregularwaves.Fortheintegralmethod,withaseriesofmathematicalmanipulations,second-orderdriftforcesandmomentscouldbeeasilyexpressedbydistributedsourceswhichcouldbecalculatedbysourcedistributiontechniqueswiththeassumptionthattheamplitudeofshipmotionsaresmallonthebasisofthelinear3Dfrequencytheory.Forthedifferentialmethod,driftforcesandmomentscouldbeexpressedbythederivativeofvelocitypotentialwithrespecttospacecoordinate.Becausetwobodieswouldbehaveasasinglebodywhiletheclearanceisverylarge,thenumericalresultsofonesphereinsuchcaseweregivenandcomparedwithanalyticalresultsofasinglespherewhichdoesnotinvolvetheeffectoffreesurface.Whensubmergeddepthbecomesenoughlarge,agoodagreementcanbereached.Thentheintegralmethodwasusedtopredictthesecond-orderdriftforcesandmomentsoftwosubmergedspheresandspheroidswithasmalllateralseparationdistanceinwavescomparedwiththenumericalresultsobtainedbythedifferentialmethodandtheyagreewell.Bycomparison,itindicatestheinteractioneffectsbetweentwosubmergedbodieshaveaprofoundinfluenceonthedriftforcesandmoments.Inthispaper,theforwardspeedeffectonsubmergedsphereswasalsoconsidered.
