ThequestionwhethertherehavebeenQuaternaryglaciationsintheDaHingganareahaspuzzledglacialgeologistsformanyyearsbecausenosufficientglacialevidencehasbeenfoundinthisarea.ThestudyofQuaternaryglaciersintheDaHingganareaisalsoakeyissueoftheglaciologyinChinabecauseofthespeciallocationofthisarea.Inthepasttwoyears,alargenumberofcompleteandtypicalglacialvestigeshavebeenfoundinHexigteninthesouthernDaHingganMountains,suchasfossilcirquegroups,horns,knife-edgecrests,terminalmoraines,glacialsteppedstones.Theselandformsarelocatedatawatershed,whicharethusimpossibletobeformedduetotectonicprocesses,waterorweathering,butcanonlybeformedbyglaciation.ThecalculatedflatindexesofthefossilcirquesintheHexigtenare1.7-4.5,4-5and1.3-5,whicharewithintherangeof1.7-5thatistheflatindexofrealcirques.Thetypicalandcompletemoraineshavealsobeenfoundinthisarea.AlltheseglacialvestigesprovethattheQuaternaryglaciersdidexistintheDaHingganMountainsofeasternChina.Thus,itisofimportantscientificsignificancefortheresearchonChinese,eventheglobalclimaticandenvironmentalevolutionsincetheQuaternary.
