Itiswidelyknownthattheseismicresponsecharacteristicsofasoilsitedependsheavilyonseveralkeydynamicpropertiesofthesoilstratum,suchaspredominantfrequencyanddampingratio.Awidelyusedmethodforestimatingthepredominantfrequencyofasoilsitebyusingmicrotremorrecords,proposedbyNakamura,isinvestigatedtodetermineitseffectivenessinestimatingthedampingratio.TheauthorsconductedsomemicrotremormeasurementsofsoilsitesinHongKongandfoundthatNakamura'smethodmightalsobeusedtoestimatethedampingratioofasoilsite.DampingratiodatafromseveraltypicalsoilsiteswereobtainedfrombothNakamura'sratiocurvesusingthehalfpowerpointmethodandresonantcolumntests.Regressionanalysisindicatesthatthereisastrongcorrelationbetweenthedampingratiosderivedfromthesetwodifferentapproaches.
