Oneofmanyinterestingresearchactivitiesinbiofluidmechanicsisdedicatedtoinvestigationsoflocomotioninwater.Someofpropulsionmechanismsobservedintheunderwaterworldareusedinthedevelopmentprocessofunderwaterauto-nomicvehicles(AUV).Inordertocharacteriseseveralsolutionsaccordingtotheirmanoeuvrability,influenceonthesur-roundingfluidandenergeticefficiency,adetailedanalysisoffin-likemovementisindispensable.Inthecurrentpaperananalysisofundulatory,oscillatoryandcombinedfin-likemovementsbymeansofnumericalsimulationiscarriedout.TheconservationequationofmassandtheconservationequationofmomentumaresolvedwiththeFiniteVolumeMethod(FVM)byuseofthesoftwareCFX-10.0.Theundulatoryandoscillatoryfinmovementsaremodelledwithanequationthatisimplementedwithinanadditionalsubroutineandjoinedwiththemainsolver.Numericalsimulationsarecarriedoutinthecomputationaldomain,inwhichonefinisfixedinaflow-throughwaterduct.SimulationsarecarriedoutintherangeoftheRenumberupto105.Theresultsshowsignificantinfluenceofappliedfinmotiononthevelocitydistributioninthesurroundingfluid.
