AstudyoftsunamieventsintheEast(Japan)SeausingcontinuousGalerkinfiniteelementmodel,aimingatreproducingtsunamiwavesgeneratedbyunderwaterearthquakesin1983and1993respectivelyhasbeenperformedfocusingonthegeographicextentofatopographicfeatureintheEast(Japan)Sea.Numericalmodelscanbethepropertoolstostudythecombinedeffectsofrealistictopography.Subsequently,usingtheFEMbasedtwo-dimensionalmodelwehavesimulatedthesmoothedandflattenedtopographiceffectsbyremovalofYamatoRiseandseamountsforthecasesoftthe1983Centralregionearthquaketsunamiandthe1993southwesternHokkaidoearthquaketsunami.TheresultshaveshownthattherewillbehighertsunamisalongtheeasterncoastsofKoreaingeneralexceptsomeareas,likeSokchowithremovaloftopographichighs,thusprovidingcomplicatedbottomtopographyoftheEast(Japan)Seaaseffectivetsunamienergyscattering.
