Thisarticledevelopedadecompositionmodelofenergyproductivityonthebasisoftheeconomicgrowthmodel.FourfactorswereconsideredwhichmayinfluenceChina’senergyproductivityaccordingtothismodel:technologyimprovement,resourceallocationstructure,industrialstructureandinstitutearrangement.Then,aneconometricmodelwasemployedtotestthefourfactorsempiricallyonthebasisofChina’sstatisticaldatafrom1978to2004.Resultsindicatedthatcapitaldeepeningcon-tributesthemost(207%)toenergyefficiencyimprovement,andimpactfromlaborforces(13%)istheweakestoneinresourcefactor;industrialstructure(7%)andinstituteinnovation(9.5%)positivelyimprovetheenergyproductivity.
