Asimplifiedmultisupportresponsespectrummethodispresented.Thestructuralresponseisasumoftwocomponentsofastructurewithafirstnaturalperiodlessthan2s.Thefirstcomponentisthepseudostaticresponsecausedbytheinconsistentmotionsofthestructuralsupports,andthesecondisthestructuraldynamicresponsetogroundmotionaccelerations.Thismethodisformallyconsistentwiththeclassicalresponsespectrummethod,andtheeffectsofmultisupportexcitationareconsideredforanymodalresponsespectrumormodalsuperposition.Iftheseismicinputsateachsupportarethesame,thesupportdisplacementscausedbythepseudostaticresponsebecomerigidbodydisplacements.Theresponsespectruminthecaseofmultisupportexcitationsthenreducestothatforuniformexcitations.Inotherwords,thismultisupportresponsespectrummethodisamodificationandextensionoftheexistingresponsespectrummethodunderuniformexcitation.Moreover,mostofthecoherencycoefficientsinthisformulationaresimplifiedbyapproximatingthegroundmotionexcitationaswhitenoise.Theresultsindicatethatthissimplificationcanreducethecalculationtimewhilemaintainingaccuracy.Furthermore,theinternalforcesobtainedbythemultisupportresponsespectrummethodarecomparedwiththoseproducedbythetraditionalresponsespectrummethodintwocasestudiesofexistinglong-spanstructures.Becausetheeffectsofinconsistentsupportdisplacementsarenotconsideredinthetraditionalresponsespectrummethod,thevaluesofinternalforcesnearthesupportsareunderestimated.Theseregionsareimportantpotentialfailurepointsanddeservespecialattentionintheseismicdesignofreticulatedstructures.
