Theproblemofimprovingtheperformanceofmin-sumdecodingoflow-densityparity-check(LDPC)codesisconsideredinthispaper.Basedonmin-sumalgorithm,anovelmodifiedmin-sumdecodingalgorithmforLDPCcodesisproposed.Theproposedalgorithmmodifiesthevariablenodemessageintheiterationprocessbyaveragingthenewmessageandpreviousmessageiftheirsignsaredifferent.Comparedwiththestandardmin-sumalgorithm,themodificationisachievedwithonlyasmallincreaseincomplexity,butsignificantlyimprovesdecodingperformanceforbothregularandirregularLDPCcodes.Simulationresultsshowthattheperformanceofourmodifieddecodingalgorithmisveryclosetothatofthestandardsum-productalgorithmformoderatelengthLDPCcodes.
