Unsteadyfluidflowsandlevelfluctuationsinathinslabcontinuouscastingmouldhavesignificantinfluenceonproductquality.Inthisstudy,thephenomenaconcerningtransientflowfeaturesandfreesurfacemotionswereanalyzedbymeansofthelargeeddysimulation(LES)softwarewiththesmagorinskySGSmodel-VisualCast(VCast)II,wheretheSimpleralgorithmonabody-fittedmeshwasusedtoresolvegoverningequations.Aseriesofwateranalogexperimentsonthefluidflowandthesurfacewaveinthemouldsofthinslabcontinuouscastingwerealsoperformed.Theresultsoffluidregions,middleofvortexandlevelfluctuationfromdigitalsimulationswereidenticalwiththeresultsofthewateranalogexperiments.
