  • 简介:Traditionaldigitalprocessingapproachesarebasedonsemiconductortransistors,whichsufferfromhighpowerconsumption,aggravatingwithtechnologynodescaling.Tosolvedefinitivelythisproblem,anumberofemergingnon-volatilenanodevicesareunderintenseinvestigations.Meanwhile,novelcomputingcircuitsareinventedtodigthefullpotentialofthenanodevices.Thecombinationofnon-volatilenanodeviceswithsuitablecomputingparadigmshavemanymeritscomparedwiththecomplementarymetal-oxide-semiconductortransistor(CMOS)technologybasedstructures,suchaszerostandbypower,ultra-highdensity,non-volatility,andacceptableaccessspeed.Inthispaper,weoverviewandcomparethecomputingparadigmsbasedontheemergingnanodevicestowardsultra-lowdissipation.

  • 简介:Inthispaper,addedresistancesactingonahullofnonballastwatership(NBS)inhighwavesisdiscussed.ThenonballastwatershipsweredevelopedatthelaboratoryoftheauthorsatOsakaPrefectureUniversity,Japan.Inthepresentpaper,theperformancesofthreekindsofbowshapesdevelopedfortheNBSweretheoreticallyandexperimentallyinvestigatedtofindthebestoneinhighwaves.Inpreviouspapers,anoptimumbowshapefortheNBSwasdevelopedincalmwaterandinmoderatedwaves.Fora2mmodelforexperimentsandcomputations,thewaveheightis0.02m.Thismeansthatthewaveheightis15%ofthedraftoftheshipinfullloadconditions.Inthispaper,addedresistancesinhighwavesupto0.07mfora2mmodelor53%ofthefullloaddraftareinvestigated.Insuchhighwaveslinearwavetheorieswhichhavebeenusedinthedesignstageofashipforalongtimemaynotworkwellanymore,andexperimentsaretheonlyeffectivetooltopredicttheaddedresistanceinhighwaves.Withthecomputationsforwaves,theshipisinafullycapturedconditionbecauseshorterwaves,λ/Lpp〈0.6,areassumed.

  • 简介:Inthispaperweconsiderlaserintensitiesgreaterthan1016Wcm-2wheretheablationpressureisnegligibleincomparisonwiththeradiationpressure.Theradiationpressureiscausedbytheponderomotiveforceactingmainlyontheelectronsthatareseparatedfromtheionstocreateadoublelayer(DL).ThisDLisacceleratedintothetarget,likeapistonthatpushesthematterinsuchawaythatashockwaveiscreated.Herewediscusstwonovelideas.Firstly,thetransitiondomainbetweentherelativisticandnon-relativisticlaser-inducedshockwaves.Oursolutionisbasedonrelativistichydrodynamicsalsofortheabovetransitiondomain.Therelativisticshockwaveparameters,suchascompression,pressure,shockwaveandparticleflowvelocities,soundvelocityandrarefactionwavevelocityinthecompressedtarget,andtemperaturearecalculated.Secondly,wewouldliketousethistransitiondomainforshockwave-inducedultrafastignitionofapre-compressedtarget.Thelaserparametersforthesepurposesarecalculatedandthemainadvantagesofthisschemearedescribed.Ifthisschemeissuccessfulanewsourceofenergyinlargequantitiesmaybecomefeasible.

  • 简介:Thequestforenergyefficiencyhasgrowingimportanceinhighperformancemany-coresystems.However,incurrentpractices,thepowerslacks,whicharethedifferencesobservedbetweentheinputpowerbudgetandtheactualpowerconsumedinthemany-coresystems,aretypicallyignored,thusleadingtopoorenergyefficiency.Inthispaper,weproposeaschemetoeffectivelypowertheon-chipcommunicationsbyexploitingtheavailablepowerslackthatistotallywastedincurrentmany-coresystems.Asso,thedemandforextraenergyfromexternalpowersources(e.g.,batteries)isminimized,whichhelpsimprovetheoverallenergyefficiency.Inessence,thepowerslackisstoredateachnodeandtheproposedroutingalgorithmusesadynamicprogrammingnetworktofindthegloballyoptimalpath,alongwhichthetotalenergystoredonthenodesisthemaximum.Experimentalresultshaveconfirmedthattheproposedscheme,withlowhardwareoverhead,canreducelatencyandextraenergyconsumptionby44%and48%,respectively,comparedwiththetwocompetingroutingmethods.IndexTerms?Adaptiverouting,dynamic

  • 简介:AIM:Toexaminetheintegrityoftheocularsurfacesofsubjectswithandwithoutdiabeteswithnoconjunctivalanddryeyesignsandsymptomsandcompareconjunctivalimpressioncytologyfindingsindiabeticswithnon-proliferativeandproliferativediabeticretinopathy.METHODS:Conjunctivalimpressioncytologywasperformedon43eyesof43subjectswithnonproliferativediabeticretinopathy(NPDR),42eyesof42subjectswithproliferativediabeticretinopathy(PDR),and30eyesof30controlsubjects.Impressioncytologyspecimensofeachgroupweregradedandscoredintherange0-3accordingtoNelson’smethod.RESULTS:Therewere45(52.9%)womenand40(47.1%)men.Themeanageofthepatientswas59.6±9.3y(range,43-76y)inNPDRgroupand58.0±8.8y(range,41-85y)inPDRgroup.CaseswithNPDRandPDRshowedstatisticallysignificanthigherimpressioncytologyscoresthancontrolgroup(P<0.05).TherewasnodifferencebetweentheNPDRandPDRpatientsforimpressioncytologygradingscores.CONCLUSION:ItisdeterminedthatimpressioncytologygradesarealteredinpatientswithNPDRandPDR.Consequently,wesuggestthattheremightbeanassociationbetweentheimpressioncytologygradingscoresandtheseverityofdiabeticretinopathy

  • 简介:Overthepastfewdecades,non-alcoholicfattyliverdisease(NAFLD)hasbecomeone,ifnotthemostcommon,causeofchronicliverdiseaseaffectingbothadultsandchildren.Theincreasingnumberofcasesatanearlyageisthemostworryingaspectofthispathology,sinceitprovidesmoretimeforitsevolution.Thespectrumofthisdiseaserangesfromliversteatosistosteatohepatitis,fibrosisandinsomecases,hepatocellularcarcinoma.NAFLDmaynotalwaysbeconsideredabenigndiseaseandhepatologistsmustbecautiousinthepresenceoffattyliver.Thisshouldprompttheuseoftheavailableexperimentalmodelstounderstandbetterthepathogenesisandtodeveloparationaltreatmentofadiseasethatisdangerouslyincreasing.Inspiteofthegrowingefforts,thepathogenesisofNAFLDisstillpoorlyunderstood.InthepresentarticlewereviewthemostrelevanthypothesesandevidencethataccountfortheprogressionofNAFLDtonon-alcoholicsteatohepatitis(NASH)andfibrosis.TheavailableinvitroandinvivoexperimentalmodelsofNASHarediscussedandrevisedintermsoftheirvalidityintranslationalstudies.Thesestudiesmustbeaimedatthediscoveryofthestillunknowntriggersormediatorsthatinducetheprogressionofhepaticinflammation,apoptosisandfibrosis.

  • 简介:Lowpowerconsumptionisamajorissueinnowadayselectronicssystems.ThistrendispushedbythedevelopmentofdatacenterrelatedtocloudservicesandsoontotheInternetofThings(IoT)deployment.Memoriesareoneofthemajorcontributorstopowerconsumption.However,thedevelopmentofemergingmemorytechnologiespavesthewaytolow-powerdesign,throughthepartialreplacementofthedynamicrandomaccessmemory(DRAM)withthenon-volatilestand-alonememoryinserversorwiththeembeddedordistributedemergingnon-volatilememoryinIoTobjects.Inthelattercase,non-volatileflip-flops(NVFFs)seemapromisingcandidatetoreplacetheretentionlatch.Indeed,IoTobjectspresentlongsleeptimeandNVFFsoffertosavedatainregisterswithzeropowerwhentheapplicationisidle.ThispapergivesanoverviewofNVFFarchitectureflavorsforvariousemergingmemorytechnologies.
