  • 简介:WesummarizeinthisoverviewachievementsincurrentresearchfrontiersinAsiansanddustwithemphasisonthemethodforsanddustresearch,thesourcesofsanddustaerosols,emissionofsanddust,mechanismofsanddustweather,chemicaltransformationduringtransport,andinfluencesonclimaticenvironmentandoceans.OurmainresultsshowthatmostofAsiansanddustcomesfromMongolia,theGobiDesert,aridandsemiariddesertareasinnorthwestChina,whichisdividedintoinitialsourcesandenhancedsources.HalfoftheglobalproductionofdustoriginatesfromAsiandustsourceregions.Asiandustweatherissoimmensethatitcancovera5-7-dayjourneyfromthesourcestotheKoreanPeninsula,JapanIslands,andthePacificOceantoevenimpactNorthAmerica.Asiandustweatherplaysanactiveroleinthebiogeochemicalcyclesoftraceelementsinthemid-latitudeNorthernHemisphere.

  • 简介:StudyofthemajorAsianriversdischargetotheoceanrevealsvariationsoftheirwaterdischargesandsedimentloads,andlocalcharacteristicsofriversedimentconcentrations.Onthebasisofthis,theAsianriversfallintothreeregions,includingEurasiaArctic,EastAsia,SoutheastandSouthAsiaRegions.TheEurasiaArcticRegionischaracterizedbythelowestsedimentconcentrationandload,whiletheEastAsiaRegionisofthehighestsedimentconcentrationandhighersedimentload,andtheSouth-EastandSouthAsiaRegionyieldshighersedimentconcentrationandhighestsedimentload.Thesedimentloadsoftheseregionsaremainlycontrolledbyclimate,geomorphologyandtectonicactivity.TheEurasiaArcticriverswithlargebasinareasandwaterdischarge,drainlowreliefwhichconsistsoftundrasediment,thuscausingthelowestsedimentload.TheEastAsiariverswithsmallbasinareasandlowestwaterdischarges,drainextensiveloessplateau,andtransportmosterodibleloessmaterial,whichresultsinhighestsedimentconcentration.TheSEandSouthAsiariversoriginatingfromtheTibetPlateauhavelargebasinareasandthelargestwaterdischargesbecauseoftheSummerMonsoonandhighrainfallinfluence,causingthehighestsedimentload.InAsia,tectonicmotionoftheTibetPlateauplaysanimportantrole.ThoselargeriversoriginatingfromtheTibetPlateautransportabout50%oftheworldriversedimentloadtooceanannually,forminglargeestuariesanddeltas,andconsequentlyexertingagreatinfluenceonsedimentationinthecoastalzoneandshelves.

  • 简介:Onthebasisof900-yearintegrationofaglobaloceancirculationmodel-LICOMdrivenbyECMWFreanalysiswinddatawithuniform0.5°-grids,aquantitativeestimateoftheannualandmonthlymeanwaterexchangeoftheSouthChinaSea(SCS)withitsadjacentoceansthrough5straitsisobtained.Amongthem,theannualtransportisthelargestintheLuzonStrait,thenintheTaiwanStrait,andthenintheSundaShelf,intheBalabacStraitandintheMindoroStraitinturn,thelargestmonthlytransportvariationappearsintheLuzonStraitandSundashelf.ItisshownthatthemasstransportthroughtheTaiwanStraitisaffectedbymonsoon,whilethetransportthroughtheLuzonStraitmaybeassociatedwiththebifurcationpositionoftheNorthEquatorialCurrentofftheeastPhilippinesshore;thetransportsintheLuzonStraitandSundaShelfareoutofphaseindirectionbutwellcorrelatedinmagnitude.TheannualandmonthlymeanheatandsalinityexchangeoftheSCSthroughthestraitsarealsocalculatedandshowntobeinphasewiththemasstransport.TheKuroshiowatercarriesabout0.43PWheattransportand151.33kt/ssalinitytransportintotheSCS,whilemostofthemiscarriedoutoftheSCSthroughtheTaiwanStraitandSundaShelfannually.Thefurthermodelintegrationbasedonthe900-yearintegrationforanother44afrom1958to2001drivenbyrealwinddata(ERA40data)showsthatthemonthlymeanmasstransportviathesestraitsvariesannuallywithalargevariationrange,whichmaybeassociatedwiththeseasonalandinterannualvariationsinthecurrentfieldandseasurfaceheightintheSCS.ThemeanmasstransportthroughtheTaiwanStrait,LuzonStrait,MindoroStrait,BalabacStraitandSundaShelfis2.012×106,-4.063×106,-0.124×106,-0.083×106and2.258×106m3/s,respectively.

  • 简介:Theannual,interannualandinter-decadalvariabilityofconvectionintensityofSouthChinaSea(SCS)summermonsoonandair-seatemperaturedifferenceinthetropicaloceanisanalyzed,andtheirrelationshipisdiscussedusingtwodatasetsof48-aSODA(simpleoceandataassimilation)andNCEP/NCAR.AnalysesshowthatinwintertimeIndianOcean(WIO),springtimecentraltropicalPacific(SCTP)andsummertimeSouthChinaSea-WestPacific(SSCSWP),air-seatemperaturedifferenceissignificantlyassociatedwiththeconvectionintensityofSouthChinaSeasummermonsoon.Correlationoftheinter-decadaltimescale(above10a)ishigherandmorestable.Thereisinterdecadalvariabilityofcorrelationinscaleslessthan10aanditisrelatedwiththeair-seatemperaturedifferenceitselfforcorrespondingwaters.Theinter-decadalvariabilityoftheconvectionintensityduringtheSouthChinaSeasummermonsooniscloselyrelatedtotheinter-decadalvariabilityofthegeneralcirculationoftheatmosphere.Sincethelateperiodofthe1970s,inthelowertroposphere,thecross-equatorialflowfromtheSouthernHemispherehasintensified.Attheuppertropospherelayer,theSouthAsianhighandcross-equatorialflowfromtheNorthernHemispherehasintensifiedatthesametime.ThenthemonsooncellhasalsostrengthenedandresultedinthereinforcingoftheconvectionofSouthChinaSeasummermonsoon.
